It is an account for use when the laptop is run as a stand-alone PC. Logged on to the laptop as systems administrator with the laptop disconnected from the LAN. Then tried logging into that account and lo-and-behold a popup saying that the profile had not been properly loaded and a temporary one etc etc etc. I look in eventvwr and there is an Event id User Profile Service - with the content 'Windows cannot locate the server copy of your roaming profile Of course it cannot locate the server copy it isn't connected to a domain!
It then follows with an Event If User profile Service - Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary on. What I am going to do next is remove it from the domain and take it into a default Workgroup and see what happens. As you logged on as network administrator account which may trigger a roaming profile.
I suggest perform the following steps quoted from Create a user account :. If you don't see Local Users and Groups, it's probably because that snap-in hasn't been added to Microsoft Management Console. Follow these steps to install it:. You need to log on as Administrator that has sufficient permissions.
Please restart the computer and press F8 when booting into Safe Mode. Log in with the Administrator what usually has a blank password. Then you can create a new local account. How is it going? I would appreciate it if you could drop me a note to let me know the status of the issue. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know. The laptops in question are out in use at the moment but I did try one and strangely the problem did not recur.
This does seem to have kicked off since we added some Windows 7 desktops to the LAN. On all of those, the network administrator profile ends up as 'roaming' even though in AD on the server we do not have it set to have a path on the server for storing a roaming profile.
It's as if Windows 7 is assuming ALL profile are roaming whether you want them to be or not. This then seems to have influenced the Vista laptops.

My method not only requires you to take five minutes of your day to help someone, but it also requires a little empathy toward the end user, Not Apathy. Is it better to spend 5 minutes re-creating the user profile manually and with far, far more accuracy , or taking the time to set up file redirection which -in turn- will have the user calling the your helpdesk multiple times to find out where all of their data went? Where are my notes?
None of my settings are the same That was important stuff!! My desktop has been altered, what happened!? My task bar is empty, what happened? Sound familiar?
What I am not familiar with is the term "spitting into Google" could you please explain your comment? By the way, if you are suggesting my How To is the result of a Google search, I can tell you that your profile picture is quite accurate. Also, What you are referring to sounds a whole lot like roaming profiles which in my opinion is a bad idea knowing how much data users keep on their profiles these days.
Excellent post! We do this a lot. Backing up and blowing away a users profile is also our first defense strategy when any type of infection or weirdness is encountered. This is one more reason why a good way of customizing the default user profile is so very important! And no Microsoft, sysprep using the copyprofile parameter is not a good way!
With Windows 10, we will suffer yet another blow in the battle with Microsoft in finding a way to setup default profiles. This is our biggest concern with win And Microsft made a big booboo in my opinion to save the installed programs in the users folder You will also have to re-install Windows 10 apps.
Check this link out for the details. Excellent walkthrough. I have an issue where I did this and the user did not use google sync, so I need to go 'back' and retrieve his bookmarks for Chrome. Is this possible? I have the user. It's so easy to miss a step without a good list. Screen shots of the desktop and the printers really helped. One thing the user complained about was missing his custom tool bars in Excel. I was able to fix that by copying some files from his old profile.
